What if your deepest wounds were the key to unlocking your greatest power?
My vulnerable share about my own experiences...
Imagine the most challenging moments of your life—the heartbreaks, the losses, the sense of never quite belonging. Now imagine these moments weren’t random or meaningless. Instead, they were part of a cosmic plan, calling you to awaken, heal, and transform into the truest version of yourself. This is your Chiron Cycle.
In mythology, Chiron is known as the Wounded Healer, a centaur whose story intertwines deep wounds with extraordinary wisdom. Wounded by an incurable poison yet immortal, Chiron was forced to endure immense suffering. This is the vibe of your Chiron placement.
He was a talented healer, mentor, and guide for others, teaching the art of transformation through self-awareness and service. By sharing his story with the Gods, they immortalised him as a constellation in the sky. His legacy also lives on through those he trained and mentored including Jason, Hercules, Asklepios, and Achilles. Through the healing work with your Chiron cycle, what legacy do you want to leave?
Chiron’s myth parallels the human experience of encountering wounds—physical, emotional, or ancestral—and finding within them a path to wholeness. In astrology, Chiron’s transits offer us stages of this journey, echoing the Heroine’s arc: a call to face our deepest vulnerabilities, confront inner shadows, and emerge transformed. We came to this life with a plan… with karma we wanted to experience to grow as souls.
Each Chiron transit invites us to revisit and heal wounds, whether from childhood or the inherited legacies of our ancestors, offering us opportunities to reclaim our authenticity and integrate the wisdom hidden within our pain.
Chiron’s Journey Through the Zodiac
Chiron takes approximately 50 years to orbit the Sun, moving through the zodiac in an irregular pattern. Its elliptical orbit symbolises the nonlinear nature of healing—spending more time in certain signs emphasises the intensity of transformation during those periods.
Key Chiron transits mark pivotal stages of awakening and self-discovery:
• First Square (Ages 5–23): Encountering the wound.
• Opposition (Ages 13–37): Illuminating the wound.
• Second Square (Ages 27–44): Confronting and transforming the wound.
• Return (Ages 50–51): Integrating and embodying the journey.
While the timing of these transits depends on your natal Chiron placement, they each represent a rite of passage—moments when life calls you to step into deeper self-awareness and alignment with your soul’s purpose.
Note that if you are a similar age to me (41), your transits will be around a similar time as I’ve shared below. If you’d like to dive deeper, I offer transit mentoring where we go deep into your Chiron cycle!
Your Chiron Placement
You can check your chart for free over at astro.com to see which sign and house Chiron falls in for you. The house is the area of life and the sign is the way in which this shows up. If you want to dive deeper, we cover this in my course Wise Woman Transits.
My placement is Taurus in 7th House. For me this shows up as wounding around relationships and partnerships, harmony and balance (7th House Themes) along with Taurus themes of self-worth, stability and material support. You’ll see how this shows up for me in my shares below.
Chiron and the Heroine’s Journey
The stages of the Chiron Cycle can roughly align with the heroine’s journey—a cyclical process of awakening, healing, and returning to wholeness:
1. The Call to Adventure (First Chiron Sextile)
Occurring between ages 3 and 16, the first Chiron sextile introduces the seed of the wound. Like a heroine’s early encounter with the call to adventure, this phase is often unconscious. It plants the first hints of our unique challenges and gifts. During this period, we might form early habits or interests that later connect to our life’s purpose.
My experience:
For me this was August 1990 to May 1991 when I was 7-8. This was the time I left the sanctuary of a small infant school with a really close best friend and entered a much larger middle school (September 1990). I felt totally alone. No one could replace my best friend - the loss was devastating for me. She had moved to Scotland just as infant school ended. It was my first real taste of being in social situations and feeling like a total outsider - Chiron in 7th house themes.
2. Crossing the Threshold (First Chiron Square)
The first square, between ages 5 and 23, represents an early confrontation with the wound. These experiences may feel disorienting, painful, or even spiritual, yet they begin to awaken us to a deeper reality. This stage echoes the heroine leaving the ordinary world, entering the unknown, and realising she is not invincible.
Some may dissociate from the wound during this time, rejecting the call to heal. Others begin to glimpse their potential for transformation.
My experience:
For me this was November 1992 to July 1993 when I was 9-10 in year 4 at school. I don’t remember too much about this time, but when I feel into it, I get a sense of feeling left out, not being one of the ‘cool kids’. Whilst I had made a new best friend, we generally did our own thing.
3. Illumination and Descent (Chiron Opposition)
The opposition, occurring between ages 13 and 37, mirrors the heroine’s confrontation with the shadow. By now, the wound is illuminated—it becomes harder to ignore the ways it shapes your life.
This stage demands that you hold the tension of opposites: pain and potential, fear and courage, ego and soul. Accepting the wound as part of your story allows you to transform it into a source of power and wisdom. This turning point may also bring moments of awakening, where you glimpse the gifts hidden within your struggles.
My experience:
For me this was November 1998 when I was 15 years old and in school year 11 about to take my GCSE exams the following summer. This is a coming of age period and I’d just come through some serious bullying the year before. With my exams coming up, I remember the pressure of cramming for exams, of being fearful that my entire future and financial success would depend on the results (Taurus themes). Of stepping away from trusting my intuition and focusing instead on learning as many facts as possible to try and make myself feel safer. Making that move as most of us did to treat our body like it’s just a transport device for our brain.
4. Reaching the depths (Chiron Trine) = Feb to Dec 2004
For me this was February to December 2004. This was when my university boyfriend who I’d fallen for deeply broke up with me because he wanted to go off and travel and ‘be free’. It reminded me of the first experience of losing my best friend. We had planned to spend the summer together so I’d found a job in my university town. Instead I spent the summer living alone working two jobs- one at a bank and one at a late night cocktail bar. Note- the bank and bar jobs did not combine well together! It was a time of feeling an outsider again - hanging around with new groups of people I didn’t know well. Feeling heartbroken. I could have quit my jobs and gone to spend the summer at the family home, but that felt like quitting on myself. I kept myself super busy with those 2 jobs and didn’t give myself a chance to feel too much (Taurus and 7th House themes there).
5. The Trial (Second Chiron Square)
The second square, between ages 27 and 44, is a trial of transformation. By now, you are called to actively engage with your healing, integrating past lessons and addressing unresolved pain. If you’ve avoided previous opportunities to heal, this transit can bring crises that demand attention.
Like the heroine facing her darkest ordeal, this stage requires courage, self-reflection, and a willingness to let go of limiting beliefs. It is a time to reclaim your authenticity, even if it means stepping away from societal expectations or old patterns.
My experience:
For me this was December 2009 - January 2010 when I was 26. I was with a new boyfriend who I’d met in London. Things had been going well but this was a turning point. I was realising I didn’t trust him and one day, he’d left his emails open on my laptop. I saw an email from him to some friends about me saying I was socially awkward. It was like a dagger to the heart - the person I most wanted to be backed by had essentially said he didn’t think I was good enough to his friends. I’m sad to say it took another 6 months for us to actually break up as I wasn’t backing myself and thought maybe I couldn’t expect any better since I WAS socially awkward around his group of friends. Through this I really felt the importance of trust over ‘looking good’ and also to trust my intuition as I’d felt something was off for a while before I read that email - which was why I ended up reading it. I also learnt that it was up to me who I chose to spend my time with- why was I forcing myself to be around people that didn’t make me feel good and trying to fit in with them? (Chiron in 7th house vibes again). He also happened to be my house mate so us breaking up was also linked to this Taurus sense of safety and the physical space we lived in.
5. The Return (Chiron Return)
At age 50–51, the Chiron Return signifies the heroine’s return to wholeness. After years of wrestling with the wound, you now have the opportunity to embody its wisdom and integrate the gifts of your journey.
This is a time of profound self-acceptance—a chance to see your life as a cohesive story, where even the deepest wounds have served your growth. For those who embrace the process, the Chiron Return offers a culmination of healing, allowing you to step into your role as a guide and healer for others.
My experience:
Well I haven’t yet been through this as I’m 41 at the time of writing, but I can reflect on my journey through Chiron transits so far to have some idea of what themes are likely to be coming up again. However in the return it’s a chance to integrate and overcome the challenges once and for all.
Ancestral Healing and Chiron’s Legacy
Chiron’s influence can often extend beyond personal wounds, touching the ancestral stories we carry in our DNA. The struggles of past generations—whether they involve loss, trauma, or resilience—can manifest as patterns or wounds in our lives. Each Chiron transit provides an opportunity to acknowledge these legacies, honour their impact, and choose to heal them for future generations. I feel I am carrying some karma related to 7th House and Taurus themes, and it’s my dharma to work that out.
Healing with Chiron is not linear; it is cyclical, like the spiralling process of growth and awakening. Just as the heroine cycles through descent and return, Chiron’s transits invite you to revisit your wound at deeper levels, revealing new layers of insight and integration each time.
Embracing the Gifts Within the Wound
The myth of Chiron teaches us that our deepest pain can become our greatest source of wisdom. Each transit represents an opportunity to move closer to wholeness, guided by the archetypal energy of the Wounded Healer.
As you navigate the Chiron Cycle, remember that healing is not about erasing the wound—it’s about finding the strength, wisdom, and compassion that lie within it and integrating it. Your journey, like the heroine’s, is one of transformation, where every challenge serves as a doorway to your fullest self.
By embracing this process, you not only heal yourself but contribute to the collective story of awakening and wholeness. Through Chiron, we are all called to step into the role of healer—first for ourselves, and then for the world.
