Why We Should Celebrate Our Sensitivity
What if sensitivity is not a flaw to fix, but a gift to celebrate?
We live in a world that often labels sensitivity as a weakness – something to suppress, manage, or hide away. But what if sensitivity is not a flaw to fix, but a gift to celebrate?
For the sensitive ones, the world doesn’t just pass by – it moves through us.
We feel deeply, sense subtle shifts, and see beauty in places others might overlook. It’s in the way a piece of music moves you to tears, the way someone’s unspoken pain touches your heart, or the way you can pick up on what others need – sometimes before they even say a word.
I experience this every day - from my dentist telling me I’m way too sensitive (I now see a specialist dentist who can deal with my sensitive gums!) to having to wear ear plugs at the cinema because it’s just too loud… to crying at seemingly random short clips on TV… see below for my top tips to manage sensitivity in a noisy world!
Sensitivity is not fragility – it’s strength in disguise.
It’s the strength to truly feel, when so many are numb. It’s the courage to show up as you are, without shutting down or shutting out the parts of life that feel “too much.”
Here’s why you should honour your sensitivity instead of pushing it away:
1. Sensitivity is a Superpower
Your sensitivity connects you to your intuition. It makes you empathetic, aware, and deeply connected to others. While others may rush by the quiet whispers of life, you hear them clearly. Sensitivity makes you a natural guide, healer, and creative force.
2. You Experience Life in Full Colour
Sensitive people are wired to experience the world more vividly. The joy, the beauty, the laughter – you feel it in your bones. Yes, the challenges might feel heavier too, but that’s because you’re brave enough to lean into life instead of hardening against it.
3. Your Sensitivity Is a Gift to Others
In a fast-moving world that praises “toughness,” your sensitivity gives others permission to soften. You remind people to feel, to pause, and to pay attention. You hold space for others to be vulnerable. That’s a gift the world needs more of.
4. Sensitivity Inspires Creativity
Some of the most beautiful art, words, and ideas come from sensitive souls. When you feel deeply, you create deeply. You turn your emotions into expressions that heal, inspire, and awaken others.
Celebrate Your Sensitivity – Here’s How:
1. Stop apologising for it. Your sensitivity doesn’t make you weak; it makes you real. Own it unapologetically.
2. Protect your energy. Sensitivity can be overwhelming in the wrong environments. Honour your needs, set boundaries, and create safe spaces for yourself to thrive.
3. Channel it into something beautiful. Write, paint, dance, create, hold space, or simply be. Sensitivity isn’t meant to be bottled up – it’s meant to flow.
4. Remember: Sensitivity is a form of strength. It takes courage to feel everything, to care deeply, and to show up fully in a world that tells us to “get over it.”
So to the sensitive souls reading this: you are not “too much.” You are not broken. You are not weak.
You are beautifully alive. And the world is brighter, softer, and more loving because of you.
Celebrate that. Celebrate you.
My Top Tips to Manage Sensitivity in a Noisy & Busy World…
Always carry ear plugs or headphones so you can block out the noise around you when it’s too much. I use Loop ear plugs (attached to my keyring!) and when I need a complete block, some in-ear headphones that completely block out everything!
Find the right people. It’s worth finding dentists, doctors, specialists who are willing to make adaptations for you. I’ve had terrible experiences with dentists and doctors over the years! We don’t have to put up with it.
Set aside some alone time each day - especially if you are a line 2 in Human Design - you will need this to refuel your batteries.
Get a Dog - OK not something you just do on a whim, but having Frank my dog with me when out in public really helps. I can focus my energy on him and his joy for life, and not on absorbing other people’s bad vibes.
Have an energy protection practice - This can be super simple- before you leave the house imagine yourself being surrounded by a protective bubble. It helps if you’re going into crowded places.
Listen to Solfeggio Frequencies - These are on YouTube and Spotify and are healing at a deep level.
Find one thing that allows you deep physical relaxation and commit to do it at least once a month. For me, it’s reflexology - I know having that regular appointment makes such a difference to my day to day. It may be something else for you, such as a walk in nature or a massage, or a simple afternoon nap (not easy to fit in around kids / work!) As sensitive people, we often find ourselves supporting others as we can sense their needs, but that can mean we neglect our own.
Find a supportive community who gets it too. We can often feel like we are the odd one out, but knowing others feel this way too really helps.
Work with the Moon cycle / your own cycles. I know my sensitivity gets heightened around days 20-25 of my cycle and also around a full moon. I track my cycle and the moon using widgets on my phone so I can see at a glance if I’m likely to be more sensitive than normal. I have a FREE 2025 Moon calendar to help with that here.
